Was having weird green artifacts when I booted it up for the first time. I started panicking and thinking I got a bad unit until I remembered I hooked it up to my “4k” HDMI switch. The switch never had problems before but all it ever did was 1080p through my Switch and PS4. Seems the PS5’s 4k and HDR signal was too much for it because everything went away and got perfect the minute I plugged the PS5 directly into my 50″ 4k Roku TV with the supplied HDMI cable.As for the console itself, not much to say that hasn’t been said yet. The system itself is almost perfect: quick boot times, instant loading times in a majority of games, nice ambient soundtrack for the OS. I grabbed the Digital Edition and paired it with a removable Disc Drive I also bought from Amazon for 99$ CAD. Why? Because my PS3 and both of my PS4s stopped being able to read discs over time. I don’t want my 700$ console to suffer the same fate in the future so I opted for the removable disc drive.I was very happy to find out the console will ask and offer you to transfer your PS4’s data directly to your PS5 over your local network’s router. As Todd Howard likes to say: it just works! Transferred all my data over my network and it turned my PS5 into a carbon copy of my PS4 minus the themes, jet fan noise and sluggish OS. All savefiles were accounted for.I don’t pay for PS+ so I can’t comment on the library of games available on it. I like to actually own what I use and I don’t play games online anymore except for Warframe and FFXIV and those two don’t even need PS+ at all. In the end, I plopped all my old PS4 discs into the PS5 and was granted a bunch of free PS5 upgrades, including Fallout 4, Skyrim, No Man’s Sky and a few others I forgot. So that was nice.The original idea behind my purchase was being able to enjoy recent releases without spending 2000$+ to upgrade my gaming PC. So far so good, been enjoying the Dead Space and Demon’s Souls remakes at the price of what the GPU alone would of cost me. Seems like a win to me, I’m good with both keyboard/mouse and controllers. Grew up with both PCs and consoles.Have to say that playing all these games in 4k with HDR actually makes a lot more of a difference than I expected. Colors in particular are so much better when your TV supports HDR. Games feel and look vibrant. As for the 4k, it can vary somewhat depending on what you’re playing. You won’t really see it in cartoony games, the games needs to have a lot of small details. For example, I was impressed at the level of detail I could make out when exploring dense forests in Skyrim’s PS5 port. I could see all the leaves and branches in trees from miles away.That being said, my PS5 has an annoying problem where the console randomly disconnects from the WiFi for a split second, interrupting downloads until I manually start them again. It does get old. Looking it up, seems like it’s a common problem so most likely on the software side rather than hardware.I also can’t shake the feeling that, sometimes, the console feels just like a jacked-up PS4. I’ve been playing mostly PS4 games on it, like Monster Hunter: World, Fallout 4, the Crash and Spyro trilogy remakes. Sure, most of them are “Upgraded for PS5” but it’s still the same games I’ve been playing since like 2016. The amount of true next-gen games I’ve played on it is rather low and I’ve had the system for half a year now. I mean, Skyrim never looked better and never will (not without mods, at least) but it’s still just Skyrim in 4k with HDR.I also dislike how the PS5 can’t even do Bluetooth audio unless spending 200$ on Sony’s proprietary headset. I’m sorry but that headset looks absolutely terrible (PlayStation Pulse Elite I think it’s called), meanwhile the frigging Switch supports Bluetooth audio so yeah, I’m not buying that. I have a set of perfectly good Corsair HS70’s I’ve been using on my gaming PC and Switch for years and I don’t plan on spending more money. If you don’t mind wired, you CAN hook up a headset through 3.5mm on the controller’s port but those are now difficult to come by unless you enjoy garbage $30 headsets that sound terrible.That being said, I’m still extremely satisfied with my purchase. I gave my PS4 away to a relative because the PS5 made it completely obsolete. Also, and now this is kind of niche, but I learned that playing the PS4 port of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on PS5 actually makes the game more stable and less prone to crashing. So I’ve recently ordered the original strategy guide for it through eBay and I’m looking forward revisiting this old gem from my teenage PlayStation 2 years.Overall, I would give the PS5 the 5/5 it deserves if only it had more games. As it stands, 4/5 is the best I can give because for the amount of money Sony asks, you’d expect more content. If you’re a brand new 2024 gamer who never held a controller before, this system will be amazing for you. For oldtimers like me, it’s just a PS4 60fps edition. Mostly.

I am actually impressed by the system. As long as you have the proper display, the graphics are freakin great. I am a game dev. It runs a bit hot but it’s built to take it. I have a fan run on the back of it if I’m playing heavy unreal engine 5 games though just to help it out. Remember, these systems are very much like a computer. The more the cooling you got the better.

If you had a PS4 before, you may find it a bit difficult to get used to the new menu of the PS5, but after having it for almost a year, I could say that it’s the best console ever. The remote fits perfectly in your hand and it feels very high quality. The console itself is also bigger, so if your PS4 was where you had it, you may want to make space for the new PS5. In terms of looks, it is very pretty and elegant, it gives you satisfaction to see how clean and elegant it looks (I was like that for a month).

Compared to the PS4, the PS5 definitely out performs it in every way imaginable. but obviously, when it comes to PlayStation, they have their flaws. For example, sometimes the Internet connection goes out even with an enhanced connection receiver But that’s expected with most consoles. Plus, I feel like if you own a Hard copy of a game you should be able to download it digitally For free or with a small fee instead of having to pay for the full game again, even though it’s on your console already just behind a Paywall or in $100 disc drive attachment (Canadian BTW). But overall, it’s a great console with great sound quality and graphics and processing capabilities . Can’t complain.
